Steve Tutewohl

Steve Tutewohl is Chief Operating Officer at TailorCare, where he brings an unusual mix of actuarial, analytics, and healthcare operations experience to patient care. Before TailorCare, he was CEO of Evolent Health Services and COO of Evolent Health after years as its chief actuary. He thinks that care in CX should feel personal, while the system behind it should be measurable.

Tutewohl sees musculoskeletal care as a problem of choice as much as treatment. Patients can face physical therapy, self-care, specialists, injections, or surgery without a clear way to judge the options. He favors guided, shared decision-making, with a clinician helping each person understand the tradeoffs and choose a path that fits their condition and goals.

He thinks its role is to supplement clinicians, giving them more room for judgment, expertise, and patient relationships.

The technology gives care teams greater visibility into patient interactions, supports care advocates in real time, and helps identify where the experience varies between conversations.

Tutewohl wants technology to give clinicians more time for the decisions and relationships that affect care, while expecting the gains to appear in outcomes, adherence, and cost. Patient experience, in that model, becomes something a healthcare organization can improve through better human judgment.
